The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) advised the public to ensure all buildings and business premises comply with requirements in the Fire Safety Order 2016 to possess Fire Safety Certificate and Fire Certificate.
The FRD in 2016 issued the Fire Safety Order 2016 which is implemented in three phases in stages. Phase 1 – Ease of Doing Business, Phase 2 – Petroleum and Flammable Materials and Phase 3 – Power to Board Vessel for Various Purposes.
Acting Director of FRD Nohi Irwan Surkarki bin Haji Pawi in a statement said that in promoting the Fire Safety Order 2016, Phase 1 has been enforced in 2016 through roadshows nationwide aiming to introduce further on facilitating on ‘Ease of doing business’ to private entrepreneurs and government agencies.
In continuing the implementation of Phase 1 enforcement, the Fire Safety Regulations (Composition of Offences) 2020 was introduced and gazetted on March 4 this year and will be implemented in August 2020.
Among some examples of frequent offences include preventing an emergency route (means of escape); preventing and shutting down any fire prevention system; shutting down, damaging and blocking fire hydrants; and modification of unauthorised business activities.
